“பழமொழிகள்” என்பவை தொன்மையான தமிழ் மொழியில் பண்டைய காலத்திலிருந்து
மக்களிடையே பரவலாக பயன்படுத்தப்பட்ட சொற்றொடர்கள் அல்லது சொல்
பொருத்தங்கள் ஆகும். இவை வாழ்க்கையில் நமக்கு பல முக்கியமான கருத்துகள் மற்றும்
அறிவுரைகளை எளிமையாகவும் சுவாரஸ்யமாகவும் விளக்குகின்றன.

தமிழ் பழமொழிகள் சமூகத்திற்கே உரிய சிந்தனைகளை, கலாச்சாரத்தை, மற்றும்
அனுபவங்களை பிரதிபலிக்கின்றன. இவை பொதுவாக ஒவ்வொரு சூழ்நிலையிலும்
பொருந்தக்கூடியவையாகவும், மறக்க முடியாதவையாகவும் இருப்பதால், மனிதர்கள்
அவற்றைப் பல்வேறு சூழ்நிலைகளில் பயன்படுத்துவர்.
